Children’s Ministries-OWLs

The mission for the children’s ministry at Mt. Pisgah is for the children to grow in:
  • Obedience to the Lord, their parents/caregivers and teachers,
  • Wisdom in God’s Holy Word and how to apply it to their lives today,
  • Love for our Heavenly Father, Jesus, family, friends, and others.
Just ask any of our dedicated Sunday school teachers, children’s church leaders, nursery workers, or other very important volunteers- with

OWLs

 you always have a HOOT!
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart (love) and lean not on your own understanding (wisdom), in all your ways submit to him (obedience) and he will make your paths straight. -Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
Children are the future of the church and they are certainly a priority at Mount Pisgah. We offer many different programs and events for all ages of children, so that they can grow in their relationship with God at their own level. These events are announced in the monthly church newsletter.
For additional information on any of the programs listed below, contact Jamie Moler,
Director of Children’s Ministries, at (336) 288-3321.

Sunday School

Sunday School is the foundation of our children’s ministry for our OWLs! In this important hour with the children, our mission is to:

  • Build a real relationship with Jesus
  • Experience fun so children know joy at church
  • Foster friendships and pray for others
  • Provide guidance for real life challenges and decisions
  • Teach the Bible as a source of wisdom and truth

childrenSunday School classes are offered for preschool age children through the fifth grade.

Our preschool and elementary Sunday school classes use the United Methodist curriculum entitled “Grow, Proclaim, Serve”.  This three-year course study of the Bible will help our children grow by leaps and bounds in their faith.  “Your faithfulness is growing by leaps and bounds, and the love that all of you have for each other is increasing”. -2 Thessalonians 1:3 (NIV).

Please have the children join with us on Sunday mornings from 9:45-10:45am for this meaningful Bible study!

All preschool classes meet on the first floor at the opposite end of the building from the Fellowship Hall and Sanctuary. Kindergarten through fifth grade classes meet upstairs.

Worship

Children’s Church is offered for kindergartners through sixth grade during the 11:00 a.m. worship service each Sunday. We use a variety of hands-on activities to teach Christian values and Bible lessons.

Worship Bags for the children are available at the front and side entrances every Sunday.

Nursery

A nursery is available for every Sunday service. Our nursery workers, both paid and volunteer caregivers, take great care in making sure our infants and preschoolers are happy and safe each Sunday morning. Pagers are available for parents for reassurance.

In addition to Sunday morning care, child care is often offered for church-wide events.

The Weekday School

The Weekday School is a half-day preschool offering classes for ages 10 months through Pre-Kindergarten. The program is structured to meet the developmental, physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs of children at these ages.

Children’s Choirs

Children’s choir takes place from 6:00- 7:00 p.m. on Wednesdays. Choir is for children age 4 (by Sept. 1) – sixth grade.
The children participate in Bible activities in age appropriate groups during this hour too.

United Methodist Kids

UMK is a fellowship program for the children of the church.  It is important for our children and parents to get together for special activities to help foster our Christian friendships.  We get together for fun events for the whole family.

Junior Whobodies

This is a small group ministry for children in 4th-6th grade. Jr. Whos generally meet twice a month on Sunday evenings from 4:30-6:30pm. The meetings are structured similar to our youth group (The Whobodies) with devotions, games, prayer and songs; followed by dinner together.

Vacation Bible School

VBS is offered one week each summer for children four years old through rising sixth grade.  Each summer features a different curriculum and theme, where children learn through music, storytelling, skits, crafts, missions, and games.

Early Elementary Day Camp

Rising first, second, and third graders enjoy being outdoors and learning all about God’s wonderful creation at Camp Guilrock, the Methodist District Camp.  Day Camp is traditionally held each July.

Other Programs and Events

Lent Events, the Easter Egg Hunt, Pentecost Celebration, Summer Fun Days, Fall Festival, Trunk or Treat, Bible Fair, Advent Festival, and the Birthday Party for Jesus are some of the other seasonal events that take place for children throughout the year.

And Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”  Matthew 19:14 (NIV)
